About Our Wines

2015 100% Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Robert Foley.

Catherine Bugue described it in a piece she wrote for the St. Helena Star as follows: "Putting this wine in context, I’ve recently lapped up the likes of Harlan, BOND, and Screaming Eagle; fallen back in love with Dominus after tasting the 2010, and I never turn down a glass of Opus One.I’ve been lucky enough to taste great wines of Napa Valley, and as soon as I put this Dos Lagos 2015 to my lips, I knew there was a new player in town."

2016 100% Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker Kent Jarman

Complex Can be Good

At an altitude of ~1,700 ft, Dos Lagos Vineyards sits well above the fog line allowing for sun filled morning warm-up and early cooling sea-breeze off of San Pablo Bay.

The soil structure is white volcanic ash, the volcanic soils stress the vines to produce small grapes. A lack of nutrients and high mineralogy yields a multilayered 'soft' tannin structure, extra depth of flavors and an outstanding finish to the wine.

At altitude, the rainfall is captured in the 2 Lakes on the property ensuring a purity not found at lower elevations.

Altitude, soil structure, sustainability, and constant breeze creates a complexity not found in many locations.

Current Winemaker: Kent Jarman

Kent's first projects with Dos Lagos Vineyards is our 2016, 2017 and 2018 Sauvignon Blanc, and the 2015 and 2016 Napa Cab Blend, and the 2016, 2018, and 2019 Dos Lagos Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. He has been a valuable addition to the team and has been excited to work with the Dos Lagos fruit, even coordinating the purchase of the 2020 crop to one of his other clients. Kent's Winemaking Philosophy: "Let the vineyard and the wines do the talking."

Marcie Hunt, Dos Lagos Artist

Marcie Hunt is the artist for all of the Dos Lagos labels: Cabernet Sauvignon, the Cabernet blend, and the Sauvignon Blanc.

She paints with Acrylics on canvas, then photographs the paintings to be printed on wine labels. Each varietal has a different style of art work. 100% Estate Cabernet is always a vineyard painting. The Sauvignon Blanc is about turquoise water, vacation, relaxation. The Cabernet Blend is a tall label, a celebration of blends, and text on back label only.

Sustainability

At Dos Lagos vineyards, we are committed to using sustainable methods in our vineyards.

From the purity of the rainwater to the eco-system in the Lakes, everything used in the vineyards must protect not only the vines, but the wildlife, fish and birds on the 22 acre property. By providing for the support, protection and enrichment of the property, Tom and Marcie are ensuring that they are good stewards of the land and the environment.

NO GLYPHOSATES EVER!

Two Lakes, Dos Lagos

These spring-fed lakes are not only beautiful to enjoy, they also feed the vineyards. It is rare to have such an amazing water resource available, even thru the drought years the lakes have remained viable, due in part to their depth: each are 15-30 feet deep.

After a very dry 2020, the Lakes provided more than adequate water to the property. In late 2021 we received 32 inches of rain, filling the Lakes to capacity once again. Since nothing goes onto the vineyards that can damage the most fragile of creatures, the water provides a pure source of hydration for the vines.

The Vineyards

Situated at 1700 elevation in the Atlas Peak AVA, the property has 5 +/- acres of premium Cabernet Sauvignon, SO4 rootstock with Clone 7, 8 and a Secret Clone. There is a possibility to expand to the South with another 2/3 of an acre, and onto the hillsides in the back vineyards for another 2/3 acre. The Ridgetop position of the property offers Ideal weather for Cabernet Sauvignon: cool at night and warmer in the day time. The afternoon Sea-Breeze keeps things cool.

Vineyard Manager Hector Lopez and his crew have farmed Dos Lagos Vineyards since 2006. The vines are cane pruned and the work is all done by hand. Hector has embraced the sustainable philosophy of the owners and uses products that will not harm bees, tadpoles, or any of the other delicate flora and fauna of the property. The vineyards are perimeter fenced for deer, but the Lakes are left open for all the wildlife to enjoy.

Terroir

The soils at Dos Lagos are ancient and volcanic, and the "tuff" is a rare white volcanic ash at Dos Lagos. The Tuff Series has a shallow topsoil and then provides a challenging structure for the vines.

The result? Atlas Peak volcanic wines are widely known for their intense flavors and beautifully balanced tannins. A long lingering finish is the hallmark of these wines.

Wine Clubs and Sales

Dos Lagos Vineyards enjoys a highly supportive and engaged Wine Club offering 3 levels of participation. Our members have signed up for allocations of 3, 6 or 12 bottles per year. These clubs, plus our general mailing list of nearly 800 names, consists of loyal followers who purchase the wines year after year.

Most of the wine is sold DTC, although distribution agreements exist in NC and Montana. The 17/20 CA licenses transfer if the buyer desires.

Several key retail locations are at Silverado Golf Resort, Napa General Store, and Joseph George Wines in California.
